Young Pension Trustee (YPT) network came together to provide resources, support and connections

to help young professionals take on trustee roles at pension boards.

Being on a trustee board can be a development opportunity for young professionals and a younger perspective can add different insights and skills to a boardroom, as well as contribute to better representation of the pension membership. Nonetheless, the majority of pension trustees in the UK are aged between 50 and 70 years old, with an average age of 54. For that reason, the work of the YPT network focuses on individuals under 40 years of age, though anyone can be a member.

We recognise that younger professionals many times lack the support structures or support base to move into a trustee role. By helping to break down the barriers to entry to the boardroom, we hope to add diversity of age, thinking and skills to pension boards.
